Orlando … ASIG®, an industry leader in aviation services, announced today that it has facilitated the purchase and installation of state-of-the-art luggage identification technology at A.B. Won Pat International Airport (GUM).  ASIG has provided comprehensive maintenance and repair services for the airport’s baggage handling infrastructure since 2002.

SICK, the global leader in scanning technology for airport baggage identification systems, supplied and installed their ALIS400 (Airport Luggage Identification System) as a complete retrofit of outdated scanning arrays that existed at the airport.  Each of the two ALIS400 Arrays incorporate a redundant configuration of 12 scanner heads and advanced code reconstruction algorithms to provide high read rates, despite the wide variety of bar coded bag tags printed by the airlines.  The ALIS400 Arrays scan all six sides of passenger luggage to identify the 10-digit IATA bar code as the bag enters the airport baggage handling system, which subsequently tracks and diverts each bag to its assigned baggage belt based on flight schedules and gate assignments.  SICK has installed over 2,500 ALIS400 Arrays in airports worldwide.

Commenting on the new system, Andy Reeves, Senior Vice President, Operations, Americas, said “ASIG has a long standing partnership with GUM, providing a variety of airside, terminal and aviation fuel services for more than 25 years.  We are committed to delivering real and sustainable value to our customers and financing this type of investment is indicative of that philosophy.  The system eliminates manual scanning of baggage, speeds sorting and increases accuracy, thus reducing the likelihood of lost baggage.  The ALIS400 puts GUM’s handling system on par with other world-class airport systems.”
